In the most recent edition of Private Eye (No. 1276 - p19) one article caught my eye.
In it, PE explained that a new type of social networking, to compete with Facebook, is being launched.
Silicone Valley is in meltdown as "Talking" was unveiled, the article heralded.
" 'Talking' takes place when you disengage you computer, engage you legwalk sub-routine, go and 'talk to' or 'verbally twitblast' people in your 'peoplesphere' or 'vicinity'," said one man wearing a black turtle neck jumper in spectacles. reported PE.
" 'Talking' is 3D, fully interactive, free and not restricted to 140 characters", the piece continued.
I think this is great news. I quite like talking to people I know and also to strangers. It doesn't really matter what is being spoken about. I like the insight into people's lives, hearing their experiences, their hopes for the day or for bigger things. I suppose I just like being given a small chink, a window, a picture of another existence other than my own.
It is fair to say that although a user or interweb based social circles, nothing beats a conversation, the chance to share new ideas, and hear others perceptions of ideas one has had.
I think we should all join this off-line revolution with gusto and I encourage all to do the same. Maybe if you have a good conversation, you might like to share it with me and with the other readers here. Likewise if you have special conversational skills or tactics, again you might be willing to share. Tell us what went well and what might be better.
So, the question now is; when will you switch off this computer and do similar as they used to sing in the day:
"Why Don't You Just Switch Off Your Television Set and Go Out and Do Something Less Boring Instead?"
End.
