Here is your chance to be the change you want to see.
Should racism be part and parcel of the 21st century? Should overt racist landmarks be allowed to remain due to some notion of historical value?
The Dunoon Observer is running a poll (link below) on should Jim Crow go or stay. You are allowed one vote and this is monitored using a cookie.
Therefore if you vote then navigate away from the site then delete any cookies under donoon-observer.com then return to the site and vote again. I understand that the voting has already been corrupted in this way in favour of the rock staying.
Currently we are at 319 saying it should stay and only 238 saying it should go.
To work!!

I first saw the Jim Crow rock a few years ago while i was passing through, i thought of it as a 'nice' landmark and had no idea of who 'Jim Crow' was, or indeed what the Jim Crow laws were. I have since moved to the Argyll area and still smile when i see this landmark. As someone who studied American history recently as part of a course i am convinced that no racial connotations can be attatched to the painting of this rock. If you look closely it could be imagined as a crow, and, with art being in the eye of the beholder, it could be imagined as many different things. As far as i am concerned the only racial connotations come from those who are looking for them and as such should look at their own belief or latent feelings. Racism has never, to my belief, been an issue in this area and maybe the people who are trying to instigate it should think ahead to the unrest they may cause. Lastly...Why, if your beliefs are so strong, are you carrying out this endevour under the cover of darkness???
